Join me for a two day workshop where you will learn how to coil a Woman Vessel. I will share what I’ve found to be helpful during my personal experience with clay, and knowledge that was passed to me from masters of the craft, with gratitude to women potters from the Taounate area in the Rif Mountains of Morocco, and Mama Aicha who generously shared her knowings with me. I will guide you through the making process of this shape that uses coiling in various ways, all of which we will explore together. This workshop will also benefit those with no previous experience as we will cover the fundamentals of coiling - clay preparation, making coils, attaching coils to for a pot etc.). Advanced students will find it useful as well. Under my guidance you will create your own iteration of the Woman Vessel that is pictured above. This shape will help you understand how to create asymmetrical curves / change directions as you build up a coil pot and form a narrow neck. Students with previous experience may proceed to more advanced iterations that involve horizontal coiling and belly-ing out a form. By the end of this workshop, these valuable skills will stay with you, with hope to expand the range of forms that you are able to create as you begin your own journey with clay. The examples shown below are my own iterations of the form that we will work on. Please note that they are shown here only for reference to understand how far this curve can go. There will be a maximum of 8 people attending. All materials provided. Your work will be fired for you and collection will be arranged via email in due time. Please note that these shapes require a very slow drying cycle in order for the clay to shrink evenly as the water leaves the body and avoid cracks. Therefore, it is 8 weeks time before your piece will be fired and ready to collect. The workshop will take place at the studio: Unit 9D, Queen's Yard, E9 5EN, London. Both sessions will last 4 hours, from 10 am to 2 pm. Kindly note that you will be asked to pay a 50% non-refundable deposit upon booking. The remaining balance is due 30 days before the workshop. You will receive an invoice via email. Payment can be made via bank transfer or Paypal.
